Lawang Sewu Building
One of the interesting places you must visit when travelling to the city of Semarang was Building Lawang Sewu. Building colonial Netherlands is situated right in the heart of the city of Semarang, i.e. around Young Monument Roundabout. The shape is very striking with lots of Windows and doors, perhaps because that's what this building was called Lawang Sewu.
The history of building Lawang Sewu is inseparable from the history of-railroad companies in Indonesia, the building was in fact the headquarters of the first private railway company in Indonesia called NIS. This is the first company to build railways in Indonesia, where the first line built was the path that connects the city of Semarang with Solo and Yogyakarta in circa 1867.

Ouendag from Amsterdam Netherlands, execution of the construction of the building began on the 27th of February 1904, and was completed in July 1907. During the occupation of Japan, Lawang Sewu was used as the offices of the Transport Department of Japan, and at the time of independence in 1945, this building was used as the offices of the Djawatan Railway of the Republic of Indonesia (DKRI). In the event of military aggression to II, the Netherlands again took over this building and was used as a military headquarters, after the Netherlands back to leave the building by the Government of the Republic of Lawang Sewu Indonesia serve as Kodam IV Diponegoro Office in 1949. Subsequently in 1994 the building was again handed over to the Railways Department of Indonesia (Perumka), then after lying dormant for quite a while and the building of the armature, in 2009 the building was refurbished and made into a museum.
That need to be noticed by travelers who will pay a visit to the building is the lack of Lawang Sewu tersediaanya car parking, it is quite troublesome tourists coming by private car vehicles. But a few hundred meters from the houses of Lawang Sewu (entrance from the side of the road/River) there is a shopping center with a large parking area, so perhaps you could feel secure your vehicle parked in this place and then walk or use rickshaws to Lawang Sewu.
